AprA Hunger Games game idea
My idea for a THG game plays a bit like an MMORPG but not quite. You log on and it asks you what you want to play. You choose a district (1-12, obviously, each with their own perks), a gender, an appearance, and then 1-3 skills, such as archery, survival or swimming, and you’re put into a lobby while 11 other people join your game. If you’re the leader, you can add some AI in there, but you have to have at least five real people to start.
The game is played in real time. You arrive at the cornucopia and depending on what you do, you either get slaughtered by the other players on arrival, you slaughter them or you run and survive like Katniss did.
Then it’s a game of survival. Like the sims, you have bars - energy, hunger, thirst, health, temperature etc - and it’s up to you to keep an eye on these bars and make sure you don’t die from exposure or starvation. Certain plants have certain properties, but you can only scan them if you have the “Survival” skill, otherwise it’s guess work or determined by your memory from other games.
When you yourself get tired or bored, you have to find somewhere to hide - a cave, up a tree, bury yourself under the ground etc - and logging off doesn’t keep you safe. If you log off, your character remains in that area. If they’re found and killed, you start again with a new character, district, skillset, arena.
If you eat the wrong thing you get a debuff for energy or health, and you potentially get warned that without an antidote you could die. If people are observing the game, they can be sponsors and you can get antidotes.
If you meet someone else in the arena, it comes down to your skills and your gaming ability whether you live or they do. You can run, if you want to, but if they have a sling, can throw a knife, have a bow, you could get shot or hit in the back. If you are unarmed, you can fight them with your fists and disarm them, but you’ll have more chance if you have the Unarmed Combat skill.
If they kill you, you can either observe or leave and go start a new game. If you leave, you might miss out on the chance for observation and won’t learn other people’s techniques. There’s a chat function (global and local) that works throughout the whole arena (monitored, so no cheating) and locally with people right nearby (for forming alliances and such). You can also talk in the lobby and form alliances, of course.
If you kill your competitor, you can take their stuff - equipment, clothing, supplies, weapons - but you can only carry so much, so if you take their clothing it’ll be switched with your own and if you take their supplies you’ll need to stand around, exposed, while you move stuff in your inventory around.
If you get hit, it might not kill you and you may end up injured. Injuries lower your maximum energy and health metres and kill you over time. If you sleep with an injury you may find you cannot wake up when you come back and hear the canon fire.
If your thirst bar falls below 5%, you’ll start to hallucinate. Same for your health and your hunger, although those hallucinations will be different. You can, at any time, check to see how many players are still in the game, although you cannot see where they are. There is no map of the arena, unless you create one yourself, so you either need a good memory or a pen and paper.
If you win, you get a point and added to the leader board. For every arena match you win, you get one point. The one with the most points get to the top of the leader board. A character who has won before can be entered into another Hunger Games up to five times before having to be retired.

AprEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~~~!
5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, sweet, and pretty hilarious, April 24, 2012
By Jonathan Buchanan “There’s no school like old… (W. Seneca, NY, USA)
I was looking for a pretty good book for my new Kindle when I came across this. The description made it sound good and the price wasn’t bad either. All I can say is that I feel like I stole this book for $.99.
It was a cool concept, a girl having to save a princess and get the princess accustomed to her world. Maybe not the most original story, but definitely an original telling of it. The second part of the book definitely was a little less original than the first half, but by this point it’s too late, you have to see the story come to its end. It was well written, especially how you think the author is going to do one thing, then show another thing happening. Very good story.
The main character, Bianca, was a smart aleck but she was also a good person and very personable. She had the greatest character growth in this book. The princess, Alexandra, was great. She grew as a character while keeping her innocence and ditzy without going into ‘want to slap her’ territory. Their friends were great characters too, accepting of the circumstances involved and willing to sacrifice for them both. I think one of my favorite parts was that it was just a romance novel. Bianca’s friends accepted her love for a princess quickly except for a quick, hilarious bit from the last girl in the group.
I highly recommend this book, unless the smallest hint of homosexuality boils your blood. There’s also a small bit of language that parents might want to read this before letting their kids at it. I’m sure it’ll be find because the story as a whole is very sweet and a pretty tame book (especially compared to other, more famous, female centered stories). The characters are great, the story as well, and you really can’t beat $.99.
i love reviews like this :D
